Dorothy Parker and her misconception

Tina Fey's glasses help define her as a professional

Tina Fey's glasses help define her as a professional

Dorothy Parker once said, “Men seldom make passes. At girls who wear glasses.”

As a proud glass-wearing member of society, I’m wondering what gives her the idea that men are dissuaded by a good pair of specs? Frankly, I think they provide character and lend intrigue to a woman. Without them, I feel almost naked. My glasses are one more way for me to give myself a little bit of mystery.

And, let’s be honest, without them I have a bit of a moon face. There is the awful truth. It’s out and now I can’t take it back. Moony face moony face.

With my glasses, I feel smarter, more confident and, in some ways, invincible. I certainly can see, and that helps a lot. I didn’t need glasses until I was 21. I was doing support for a well-known blogging site and was spending quite a bit of time on the computer. Things began to go blurry and I started having some severe headaches. When my eyes were tested, they pronounced me with astigmatism and sent me on my way with a pair of retro shaped shades and a comment to come back yearly. And so I have.

I keep trying to make the pictures of me without glasses work, but frankly, they aren’t me and they just don’t. Being myself is sexy. Being myself is real. Besides, without my glasses, I can’t see what’s happening around me anyway, so it wouldn’t matter if someone was “passing” or not. I’d imagine it’s similar to the concept of beer goggles. I like being able to see. I think that’s sexy.

    Depends on the glasses.

I hate the style that Fey wears. I think that new style of heavy black rims, that I see so often on people on television, is supposed to be ironic or trying to look smart or something. For whatever reason they strike me as saying “Look at me! I’m wearing glasses!” As a result I just don’t like it at all.

Maybe I’m reading too much into them. But that’s the reaction I have and that’s how I feel about them.

Now yours… Hmm, interesting. Let me guess: You picked the shape of the lenses to work with your “moony face?” :-)

Was just watching some Batoo videos and *everyone* seemed to be wearing those shape glasses. They struck me as a little feminine on the guys wearing them.

So yeah they seem to work just fine on you.

And yeah, I’m probably going to be commenting here as long as you keep pulling topics out of left field. :-)

Ugh, I hate the style of links in this theme though. I vastly prefer underlines to highlights like that.

Thank you. I started out with glasses like Tina Fey and felt they overwhelmed my face. And over course I picked frames that suit my face. Silly. :)

Have you actually had a chance to play the game yet? I like that you comment here. It makes it more homey. And you are welcome to redesign the links if you like. I hate the orange links anyway. If I can get Caleb to redesign the site in the next two weeks, that would be awesome. If not, I will likely pay someone to do it or see if anyone else will do it for free.

I beg to differ as I love women wearing glasses until it can be considered as a fetish, which my wife sometimes gladly indulge

    Oh my.

Haven’t had a chance to *play* Batoo. The World Batoo League site is MS Windows only.

And I may be able to send you a little patch to your theme to fix the links.

  8. Jillian says:

If you can make them “not orange” that would be awesome. :)

I love the link theme here.

While I hear what you’re saying re: Tina’s thick frames, I picked that style because it just looks good on me. Other styles make me look old. I’d rather appear young and vaguely ironic than matronly.

Well, the theme here will likely stay as it is until Neil changes it. I had planned on changing the whole danged thing, but I can’t find a designer who is willing to do a neat wordpress theme for…wait for it…less than $800. Not a snowball’s chance. Everyone wants to do blogger styles for cheap. Neil, why did I go with wordpress again?

  11. Jillian says:

And it’s “not a snowball’s chance” because I blog for free. And I’m not independently wealthy.
