My first giveaway! Jewelry by Linda Lee

My wonderful friend, Linda Lee, is a jewelry-making genius. Last year, she went to Italy to learn more about glass-blowing and her skills have just taken off since then. I recently bought a necklace from her, to wear to a wedding this weekend, in fact, and I was blown away by how incredibly beautiful the necklace is and how lovely it is when it hangs on my neck.

When I received the box in the mail, it was gift-wrapped and gorgeous and I couldn’t wait to open it. It was then that it occurred to me that Linda Lee is an unknown treasure and I’d been keeping her to myself, quite selfishly, in fact. Recently, she’d had a sale and I realized that I was being a bad friend to all of you in not sharing her amazing work. What? I’m not always nice. And I like having first dibs.

So, to make it up to you, I’m offering a giveaway! It’s the first one on this website and Linda Lee forgave me for being so selfish and so should you. She’s generously donated a BEAUTIFUL necklace and earring set valued at $65! She custom makes all of her jewelry so there is not a single set just like this anywhere else. Ladies, this matches everything. Men, your woman will love this. Let me give you a little background information on it.

This necklace features four oversized pearls, tiny Swarovski crystals, sterling silver wire, and sterling silver chain. Linda Lee used a classic chainmail technique with twisted sterling silver rings. This necklace is 18 1/2 inches long and can be worn much shorter because of the type of chain used.

If the winner needs the necklace longer, Linda Lee can add an extender to it.

The earrings are slightly longer than 1 1/2 inches measured from the top of the ear wire.

My favorite part of summer is leaving scalding hot Phoenix and heading to New England for a couple weeks to visit my family. I am a teacher so I get a little time off during the summer. :)

My favorite part of summer would have to be watching fireworks on the 4th of July. Thanks!

Ever since I was a kid summer meant camps, hockey camp and soccer camp and baseball leagues and even the occasional attempt to play basketball, but my favorite part of summer was always the trips to Iowa. I know it sounds difficult to believe that Iowa would a place in anyone’s heart, but it was the home of my only Grandparents.

Every trip started the same: A six O’clock wake up, followed shortly by a 6:15 and 6:30 wake up, and then grabbing a pillow and blanket and Game boy (the old one with the gray screen and 4 bit graphics) and shuffling our way into the van sometimes it was a mini van sometimes a full size van depended on what mom was driving that year. we would each take our seats, my brother sister and I, and wait of dad to finish packing the last of the luggage and gifts in the back. once on the road there were two stops that happened every time, one was a stop at McDonald’s for breakfast, the other was at Dunkin Doughnuts where dad would fill his thermos, the smell of coffee in car in the early morning still reminds me of these trips.

we would play video games and pester each other and dad would yell at us to be quite or he was “TURNING THIS CAR AROUND!” we played license plate bingo, and overpass sign ABC’s, we slept and we stopped for lunch and we were a family on those road trips, the five of us against the highway, and even when we fought for window seating or the couch in the back, or what movie we were going to watch (when we had the the 11 inch TV with the VCR) we were always, happy we were together and happy to be headed to see Grandma and Grandpa.

And When we arrived at out location (usually after dark) we would rush in the house, grandma would have cookies and milk and then after a few minutes we would run to rooms and find there a new stuffed animal, a book and more clothes than we knew what to do with. it was the best of times.

That was my favorite part of the summer, it has now been replaced by seeing my kids with their grandparents and the joy they have when they run into the house to find cookies and drinks and then run around the house like little mad children before falling asleep where they crash, and the looks in all grandparents eyes when they see babies, I have become my parents and I guess nothing really illustrates that so much as summer and the way I now get to mark the events in my children’s lives.

I love the smelly, sweaty, sun-soaked hug of a child who has spent the afternoon in the sun.
