Wow this is a hard one. I’d want to hurt someone who did something like this, especially if I knew the girl involved. But then I also believe that our justice system tries to ensure that people are fairly brought to justice and punished so that mobs don’t have the potential of turning criminal themselves. In this case, there’s the added factor that once in jail, this guy will suffer vigilante justice beyond anything decent civilians could have accomplished. There’s a code of honor among prisoners and child rapists often wind up dead in jail–even other hard criminals can’t stand that act.

Over the past few years, I've started blogging more and more about the justice system in the United States. While the system has its flaws, it is much better than vigilante justice. Vigilante justice is just plain wrong. I hope that a jury finds the truth about what happened and that the rapist gets appropriate punishment. I’m skeptical of that, as well, to be honest. However, the video is pretty unclear and if the guy is guilty, of course he’d be fighting it. Granted, if he were innocent and a mob jumped him, he’d probably be fighting it as well.

I think the Commissioner indicated he didn’t charge the mob because he determined they were trying to subdue the guy in order to bring him to the police, rather than trying to beat him for the sake of beating him. I’m kind of skeptical of that explanation, but if true, that makes this particular case a lot easier to call.
