Yet another giveaway! Woo hoo!

Ok, I get it. There were some seriously disappointed people after yesterday’s giveaway. Makeup is a pretty good gig and here in about a month, there will be more of it up for giveaway. One of the things I want to do with this blog is do more giveaways, even if they are smaller ones.

So, to help ease the disappointment and sting for those that did not win, I’m going to put up ANOTHER giveaway. Yeah, I can’t afford to keep these running ALL the time (unless you all want to hit the donations stuff on the right hand side of the screen or click on the ads more frequently), BUT I can do them more often when I have things to share.

Today, I have something that those of you that are addicted to office supplies, like me, will LOVE. It’s something from mytagalongs, which is a site I’ve spoken about here a couple of different times. These super-fantastic Sticky-notes-to-go are small enough to be carried in your purse and are excellent for work, your journal or your daily planner and I have ONE to give away to a lucky winner this week!

The theme this week is our dwindling blockbuster list. I need movie suggestions! Help a sister out!

1) Leave a comment before July 30, 2009 at 5pm CST telling me what movie we should add to our blockbuster list.

You can leave up to THREE movie comments. Yep, that’s three chances right there.

2) You can tweet this giveway and/or link it on facebook or your own blog for extra chances to win! Make sure you leave individual comments so all of your entries count. (That’s an extra 2 chances!)

Things to know:
**Anyone may enter as long as I can read your post (must be in English).
**Comments posted after the deadline won’t be included in the drawing.
**If you win, you must email me your mailing address within a week of the drawing end in order to receive your prize. I am not responsible for anything that happens once this stuff leaves my hands (like getting lost in the mail).
**I will be using a randomizer to choose the winner of the giveaway. As long as your answer fits the criteria, you are eligible (unless you are me, Leon or A.J.).

P.S. People that are on my twitter followers list get a sneak peek of giveaways and a heads up that they are coming. Why not follow me on twitter?

Movie recommendations are so hard because everyone’s taste is different! One of my favs is a little bit older movie, but I could still watch it everyday! Sabrina (NOT the teenage witch one). The one that has Harrison Ford, Greg Kinnear, & Julia Ormmond. It’s a remake of an earlier (which happens to star Audrey Hepburn. And even though I absolutely ADORE Audrey Hepburn, the 1995 version is better!). It’s a fun, sweet chick flick that my hubby doesn’t mind sitting through. :)

For a more “man-friendly” movie, I’d have to say all of the Die Hard movies. I am not a big fan of action flicks, but those movies are great!

Goodness, final movie comment…so hard to choose! :) I’m gonna have to go with an indy film for this one. We watched this one via Netflix on a whim & it ended up being pretty good! It’s called “Smart People”. Kinda a dark comedy, but it felt like a movie that could really happen, you know, in real life. It has Dennis Quaid, Ellen Page, Sara Jessica Parker, Ashton Holmes, Thomas Haden Church, Christine Lahti, & more. I actually thought it was dumb about 1/2 through, but I kept at it & ended up really enjoying it! :)

Grand Torino — Clint Eastwood is a great actor and director and although this movie didn’t get as much critical attention as his other film this year (The Changeling), it was a very thought provoking movie. Eastwood plays a crusty old Koran War vet who is stuck in his ways. When his path crosses that of his Vietnamese neighbors, he begins to rethink his way of life. It was funny, heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time.

Frost/Nixon — Whenever I say this, I feel like people will start throwing rotten tomatoes at me and verbally beat me, but in everything I’ve learned of Richard Nixon, I feel sorry for him. This movie is no exception. Frank Langella plays Nixon and earned an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of the disgraced president. The movie covers the post-Watergate and impeachment of Nixon and gives an interesting look into political cover-ups and how these men who represent us are human as well.

I don’t mean to look like an Oscar snob, but the last one I want to recommend was received critical praise — Milk. I’m a Christian, and I believe that homosexuality is a sin, but this movie really made me think about it in a very different context, in the way that we treat gays and lesbians on unequal plains as heterosexuals. I’ll leave you to form your own opinions, but I was a very well done movie. Word of warning, there are a few men kissing scenes.

  7. Well, I really loved this movie called Hard Candy. It has very few people in it, it’s an indie film, stars Ellen Page BEFORE she did Juno and it’s just really amazing. Makes you think a lot about who is the criminal and what makes a crime and if you can forgive something or not. I don’t know, it’s an amazing film to see at some point.

  8. Another good one is Criminal. I love it. It’s interesting, GREAT ending in my mind, and it’s got a lot of humor in parts as well. One of my favorite actors Diego Luna is in it..if you ever saw Dirty Dancing 2, he was the main guy in that one, but he’s great so it’s worth seeing. Maggie Gyllenhal and some others are in it too.

ALRIGHT. But don’t blame me if you watch these and don’t like them.

WATCHMEN. If not for aesthetic reasons alone, then I think the plot is excellent as well.

The Women. Total chick flick–really. There are absolutely NO MEN in this movie. Ever. And it’s got a great plot about the WOMEN in women’s lives. :)

  11. Kristin McCaslin says:

And Across the Universe because it has spectacular music and a great love story. :)
