I think I find them soothing because I feel like the earth is expressing my own inner turmoil, and it is a relief of a sort. It is cathartic. I can appreciate thunderstorms now, but I still fear them. Probably came from spending quite a bit of time growing up in Illinois! :) I have one of those "fearful, but intrigued" relationships with storms.
